Keep Aces in a Separate Count

Basically, it breaks down like this – a deck of cards which is rich in 10s and Aces is good for the player, a deck rich in low cards is good for the dealer. The reasoning behind this is kind of complicated, but here are two examples:

  1. Blackjacks are more frequent in decks which contain more Tens and Aces. This benefits the player … of course;
  2. The possibility of busting a hard hand increases. Remember the dealer is forced to deal on a hard hand, whereas the player in not obliged to do so.

However, there is a problem that arises when paying attention to the Aces. The player must bet more when the deck is rich in Aces since it probably means that a blackjack is likely to occur.

Anyways, when the player bets on a hand the number of Aces are not that important, as opposed to the number of face cards which haven’t made it to the table.

Some card counting experts keep Aces in a separate count. That is the safest way to play, as opposed to keeping a negative count for Aces. Nevertheless, some players think that for the beginner it is quite confusing and will cost them money in the end.

Beginner Card Counting

card-counting-instructionsIf you are a pkv games beginner, I would suggest that you get some practice playing the card counting coach game that I have provided here. You may want to start on easy and practice your way up to pro. I wouldn’t try counting cards at a casino until you can master the Pro level.

The efficiency of a strategy that doesn’t keep a separate count for Aces is lesser, and in all likelihood the player will win more (keeping in mind, of course, a mistake or two). Legally speaking, the player can play Blackjack any way he/she likes, as long as he/she doesn’t incur in cheating per se, or in the use of any electronic device.

Casinos can create unfavorable conditions for players in order to limit the possibility that any player may have a superior edge over the casino.

As mentioned before, much of the effort placed into card counting goes into appearing like a normal player and not a card counter. What can blow a whistle is that the card counter is someone who substantially increases his or her bets after many low cards have left the table.

Increasing your bet in order to increase your winnings, or more than doubling your last bet might catch the eye of the dealer and/or pit boss. Usually when casino employees have the slightest suspicion that the player might be even remotely card counting, they will normally avoid cards when you increase your bet, remove any special or essential advantage that they might have given you or simply just ask you to leave the table.

Card Counting in Online Blackjack

Simply stated, don’t do this! Many online casino blackjack sites will not let you know when the dealer shuffles. Some may also not tell you how many decks they are using. Some of these sites will even “shuffle” the deck after every hand.

Is online gambling legal in the U.S.?

I’m not a lawyer. Do not rely on this article as legal advice.  I also can’t guarantee to have heard of every relevant case.

Short answer: Not illegal under federal law, possibly illegal under state law, but even there prosecution is rare.

There is no U.S. federal law against gambling online

There is no U.S. federal law against gambling online.  On the federal level, gambling online is perfectly legal, because of the lack of a law against it.  It’s possible to run afoul of state law (especially in extremely conservative states), but even there prosecution is extremely rare.  This article focuses mostly on federal law.

U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway admitted in a House hearing that just placing wagers online doesn’t violate federal law.  No American has ever been arrested, indicted, or prosecuted by the feds for gambling online, because there’s no law against it.  If online gambling were illegal I wouldn’t be running his website for fifteen years, as an American citizen, living in the U.S., using my real name.  And I occasionally gamble online, too, and I admit that publicly, like I’m doing right now.

This might be confusing because other outlets erroneously reported that Congress banned online gambling in 2006.  Those reports are simply wrong.  The 2006 law makes it illegal for banks to move gambling money when the bets are already illegal (like from a state law), but doesn’t make it illegal for players to make bets.  The law simply does not create or extend any ban on gambling itself.  In fact, the law says quite clearly, “No provision of this subchapter shall be construed as altering, limiting, or extending any Federal or State law or Tribal-State compact prohibiting, permitting, or regulating gambling within the United States.”  If you want to check for yourself, here’s the full text of the law.

Sports betting

It is against federal law for websites to take poker online sports bets over the Internet.  (It’s against federal law for a site to take the bets, not for you to place them.)  Federal law doesn’t specifically allow or prohibit sites from taking casino or poker bets, just sports bets.  For many years the Dept. of Justice interpreted the Wire Act to prohibit sites from taking casino/poker bets too, but most legal observers disagreed, and in Dec. 2011 the DoJ finally agreed that the Wire Act doesn’t prohibit sites from taking casino/poker bets. (Forbes)

Advertising

Publishing advertisements for online gambling isn’t specifically illegal, and it would be quite a stretch to make a case under a different statute (like racketeering or conspiracy).  Small publishers (like me) have never faced fed action running ads for online gambling.  The only publishers to face penalties were some huge publishers (Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft, in 2007), and a mid-size publisher in 2006 (The Sporting News).  I wish they had contested the charges, since legal observers say they weren’t breaking any law, but each simply paid a fine to end the matter quickly.  None ever faced any criminal charges. The Sporting News’ fine was equal to the money they’d collected from gambling ads. Google’s penalty was less than half a single day’s profit for them. (Point-Spreads.com)  Other publishers who took ads (like Esquire, who ran Bodog’s poker ads) were warned by the DoJ not to take them any more, stopped doing so, and faced no penalties.

State laws

Some states might have laws against online gambling, but even there prosecution against players is rare.  I know of only two cases a player ran afoul of state laws (in extremely conservative states), both of whom were charged under their state’s general anti-gambling laws, not any specific anti-online-gambling law.  The first was Jeffrey Trauman of North Dakota, who in 2003 paid a $500 fine on what was probably over $100,000 in online sports bet winnings. (Gambling & the Law)  The other was online sports bettor Roland Benavides of Oklahoma, who was charged in 2011 and in 2012 received a deferred sentence (which means that if he doesn’t violate the terms of his probation, he will likely face no jail time). (News OK)  Some states have gone the other way and legalized online gambling in at least some form.  (See the bottom of this page.)

Risk

Rather than just considering the law, it’s more useful to look at the potential risk of each activity.  That is, which activities are more likely to result in a fine or maybe even jail time?  Below is my take on how things stack up, from most risky to least risky. But first, some important caveats:

I’ll consider only federal law, not individual state laws.

The law and the enforcement are constantly changing, and what’s true today could be different tomorrow.

I don’t guarantee to have heard of every relevant case.

I’m a layperson, not a lawyer, and god help you if you rely on this article instead of seeking appropriate legal counsel for your situation.

Roulette Strategy

Approaching the game of roulette intelligently is a rare event. Although it’s known worldwide for its sophistication, most of the people who bet on roulette do so because it’s simple to know what you’re betting on, and to know if you’ve won. No mystery, no taking anybody’s word for anything, no crazy roulette systems and strategies to try, just good old fashioned betting. So people take advantage of the fact that it’s a simple game at face value, and often just bet on the outside bets for a while as alternate entertainment from whichever game they play predominantly.

Knowing how you can play roulette better is more about being familiar with the game conditions than it is about knowing one bet from another. In the extremely opposite vein from craps, roulette offers the same house edge on all but one of its bets, and in American roulette that house edge stands at 5.26%. The first thing you’ll want to do in development of a roulette strategy is seek out a good roulette table. If you’re unaware of the difference between American and European roulette, it’s really quite simple. On an American roulette wheel there are two green pockets, one a zero, the other double-zero. European roulette on the other hand has only one green pocket, and no double-zero. Since the added pocket on an American roulette wheel makes it harder to hit any red or black numbers it has an effect on the house edge. Without the double-zero the house edge in European roulette drops right down to 2.7%.

So if you’re not in Europe, and can’t find a single zero wheel anywhere (check out our page on single zero roulette wheel locations), your next best bet is looking for the surrender rule. In many Atlantic city casinos, surrender is an addition to the roulette set which substantially increases the players chances on certain bets. Ask at the table before you play to see if this rule is in effect. The change to house edge only applies to outside even money bets (including red/black, even/odd, high/low). When the ball lands on a zero or double zero and you have placed an outside even money bet, surrender dictates that you receive half of your even money bet back. Since we know it’s the extra green pockets that thwart our chances in the first place, any rule that lessens their blow can certainly help us. The house edge on outside even money bets when surrender is in effect is only 2.63%.

European roulette games may add an extra punch that’s good to keep an eye out for. If a rule called ‘en prison’ is active at the table, our outside even money bets are given an even better chance. Say your placing a bet on Red and the ball Judi Bola falls in the dreaded 0 pocket. If En prison is offered, the bet will not be swept away after the rest of the bets, but it wont be returned to you either; the bet is said to be ‘in prison’ and remains on the board to have it’s fate decided on the next spin. If on the next spin the bet ‘wins’ (a red # comes up), your money is returned to you as was, with no extra winnings. If the number next spin is a loss for your imprisoned bet, it gets swept away. If 0 comes up again, the bet remains in prison (this last rule varies from table to table, sometimes the bet remains for two zeros, sometimes it is taken away). With this rule in effect the house edge on outside even money bets drops right down to 1.35%. So your roulette strategy should include a keen eye for the ‘surrender’ rule, any European tables you can find (there are some online too), the ‘en prison’ rule, and always remember which bets these rules are beneficial to, as they often don’t cover inside bets.

Holy Vible

He Didn’t Say Not To”

Everyone should have reverent respect toward God’s authority. We must never be presumptuous concerning anything that we do in our worship or in our everyday life. In word or deed we must “do all in the name of the Lord” (Col.3:17), i.e. by His authority. Thus, what one should do in worship to God is not what one “prefers” but what one is authorized to do in the Scriptures.

Jesus said we “must worship in spirit and in truth” (Jn. 4:24). To worship “in spirit” is to worship with the proper mindset and attitude. To worship “in truth” is to worship as the truth directs. If God has not directed (authorized) or forbid a particular thing in His word then we must not presume that it is O.K. to go ahead and do it. Neither should we assume that just because a thing was permitted under the Old Covenant that God approves of it today as we live under the New Covenant (Heb. 10:1-9).

Many people practice things in worship which are not authorized in the New Testament such as the playing of instruments, dancing, burning of incense, etc. saying, “They did it in the Old Testament.” But where is the authority for these practices in the New Covenant? Why would one practice these things that were permitted under the Old Covenant and not practice others such as offering animal sacrifices, polygamy, etc.?

The most common religious question asked whenever God has not spoken or authorized a particular thing is: “Why can’t we if God didn’t say not to.” The desire or motivation of this question apparently is that one wants to have as broad a liberty as possible to do as many things religiously as he possibly can. But obviously, if one is permitted to practice a thing just because God didn’t order us not to, then such reasoning permits one not only to do the few things God has mentioned in the Bible , but also the limitless things not mentioned in the Bible. In other words, with this kind of reasoning there is no need for the Bible at all, for then it has no authority as one can do anything he desires.

God’s silence is non permissive. One cannot do any Holy Vible unmentioned thing, for one specific thing forbids the thing not specifically mentioned. For example, God’s command to ‘sing’ (Eph. 5:19) excludes to play an instrument, which is not authorized in the New Testament for worship.

Someone ask, “What good then is the Old Testament?” Though we are not under the Old Covenant and must submit to the authority of the New Covenant, there are many lessons that can be learned from the Old Covenant. One important lesson that is seen many times is the very thing we are discussing– God’s silence is non permissive. For example, in Lev. 10:1-2 we read, “Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took their respective firepans, and after putting fire in them, placed incense on it and offered strange fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. And fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.” Notice that the problem was not that they obtained fire from where God had ordered them not to obtain it. The problem was they obtained fire from where God “had not commanded.” God had specifically told them what to do, but in their reasoning they presumptuously did something that God had not commanded. It resulted in the Lord consuming them with fire. Again, one cannot do any unmentioned thing, for one specific thing forbids the thing not specifically mentioned.

Right now Pure Vegas also offers a good welcome bonus for players new to their website. The casino is giving away up to $2400 as a welcome bonus. The welcome bonus comes as a deposit match bonus, with the online casino matching 100% of your deposit.

Here’s how it works. Once you join the casino, you are eligible for a 100% deposit match bonus on your first three deposits. Blackjack Games at Intercasino

Online casinos tend to favor players of poker and online slots. It makes sense, since those are the two most popular games. Also, slots have a significantly higher house edge than blackjack, so the casinos make more money off of it. For online blackjack players, though, it can be hard to find a casino with a decent selection. Most casinos seem to have one or two blackjack games and that’s not enough variety for me.

Intercasino is different. They’re one of my favorite casinos for a reason. Intercasino has seven different online blackjack games. There are the standard games of Atlantic City Blackjack, Vegas Blackjack and European Blackjack as well as a game that you play using only one deck, ingeniously called Single Deck Blackjack.

If you like variations on the traditional blackjack game, there are plenty of options. Pontoon is one of the most common blackjack variants, and it is available at Intercasino. They also offer Progressive Blackjack for the big spenders going after a progressive jackpot. Super Fun 21 is available for when you’re in the mood for a blackjack game with wacky rules. They also offer Perfect Pairs blackjack, another common and fun variant.

For a blackjack game with a little more technology and better visuals, Intercasino offers Video Blackjack. Now they just need a live-dealer game and blackjack players will have pretty much every type of blackjack game they could ask for.

togel hongkong Strategy: Doubling Down

Well, yesterday I completed a long series on splitting pairs and because I’m a glutton for punishment, I decided to start another long series. Being a good blackjack player requires knowing and understanding blackjack basic strategy. For some, simply memorizing the basic strategy chart is enough. Other players, however, need to know why you should make certain decisions. I know for me it is a lot easier to know what to do in a pressure-packed situation like playing at a togel hongkong table if I know the reasoning behind each decision. For that reason, I am starting a new series that will go deep inside the strategy for doubling down.

Many blackjack novices won’t double down in any situation, either because they can’t remember when to do it, or because they are timid about putting extra money on a bet. However, doubling is one of the things that brings the house edge down to as low as 0.5% when playing perfect basic strategy. Putting twice as much money on the right hands helps you make up for money you lose on other hands. Doubling and splitting are a part of basic strategy for a reason. If you don’t do either, the house edge is increased to 5.48%, which is higher than roulette.

To signal that you want to double down, place a second bet equal to your first bet beside that first bet inside the betting circle. If you’re playing online blackjack, there should be a “double down” button to press.

But when do you double down? That is what I will cover in this series, but in short, you do it when you think that the dealer has a bad hand and by only drawing one more card you will beat the dealer. Remember that if you double down, you only get one more card.

Traditionally, you can only double after being dealt your first two cards, but some blackjack variations allow doubling later in the hand. Rules allowing you to double later are beneficial to the player. Often you are not allowed to double after splitting, though some casinos allow this. Again, if that is allowed the rule is beneficial to the player. Keep in mind, though, that you must double your original wager in order to split, so if you then double after that you are doubling twice (or three times, if you double both hands).

Some casinos will only allow you to double on hard hands, though others will allow doubling on soft hands as well. Sometimes blackjack tables will have “Reno” rules, which means that you can only double down when you have a two-card total of 10 or 11. Since different tables, including at online casinos, have different rules for doubling, you should learn the rules for that table before you begin playing.

Whatever the rules, doubling at the appropriate times is an important part of basic strategy and it helps you make as much money as possible. It is for that reason that I am taking on the long and laborious task of delving deep into every doubling situation. Stay tuned for the first part in this series.
